TELOMERES: Age Reversal Effects of Deep Breathing & Meditation
I am fascinated by our bodies and how everything works on a cellular level but one topic that truly interests me the most these days is the role of telomeres on the aging process of the body. My first video on this explored the nutritional aids we can take to support the lengthening of our telomeres. Today I am going to explore in more depth the less tangible aids of lengthening our telomeres: deep breathing and meditation.
As someone who truly enjoys meditation and deep breath work on a daily basis I am always excited when I come across scientific information that backs up aspects of my spiritual practice. I am even more excited when it confirms that my spiritual practice is likely to lead to a more youthful appearance and increased overall health internally.
For many years, we as a society have come to the general agreement that mindful breathing, meditation and yoga have a positive impact on our mental well-being, but now studies are showing these practices to have a biological effect on our bodies. This effect is the lengthening of our telomeres which are considered the hourglass of our life. When the telomeres end, so does our youthfulness and soon physical life. It is said that lengthening our telomeres literally turns back the hands of time - and studies are now supporting this idea. But you don't need some crazy surgery or expensive creams, you just need to exercise some simple mindful practices like meditation...and then breathe.
